1. In Athens, Georgia, a judge has denied a request for a new trial for Venezuelan national Jose Antonio Ibarra who was convicted of the vicious murder of nursing student Laken Riley.
2. In Mississippi, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R) and Democrat Scott Colom are set to face off against each other in the upcoming Senate race scheduled for November.
3. President Donald Trump announced that the United States has utilized its technology and missile capabilities to destroy 10 inactive mine laying boats and/or ships in the Hormuz Strait, a move aimed at countering Iranian aggression.
4. The confirmation process of Oklahoma Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin as the new head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been met with scrutiny from Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul following Mullin’s public labeling of Paul as a “freaking snake.”
